Dan got bitten by a snake sometime last night. He is spending his night at the vet tonight. This side of his face is really swollen and he could hardly bark. Poor Dan!

I called the vet this afternoon cause I was supposed to go and get him. The vet says he done some blood work on him and drained 1 1/2 tsp of puss out of his face. He has him on antibiotics and iv fluids and gave the snake venom stuff and says he wants to keep him a day or so longer. I will check with the vet tomorrow and see how he is. The vet says he will be fine and that he is still active through all of this.

Talked to the vet this afternoon and he still has Dan. He said that he now believes that Dan might of got the abcess from a thorn or briar that may of gotten stuck in the side of his face. He said he went through his hair with a fine toothed comb and cant find a bite mark anywhere. He has a very large needle sticking out of the side of his face to drain the puss out. Needless to say, hes keeping Dan til Monday.

It's Monday and still No Dan! The vet said I could come and get him but that I would have to keep the side of his face cleaned out where he has it packed with guaze and keep giving him antibiotics. He said that he would be worried that it would reinfect itself if I'm not careful. After careful consideration, I told him to keep Dan a lil longer. I will call the vet in the morning and possibly go see Dan.

Dan is home!!!! ;D ;D ;D $210.00 later! Yes, he was worth it! I was worried about him. He has to take antibiotics for the next week and I have to clean out the area where the vet lanced with peroxide every couple of hours and put this animax cream in the wound. I have him inside right now watching him. He is actually sitting right here with me at the computer desk!

I wont wanna, but i will have to. I think the vet had given him a sedative to keep him calm since the needle was in the side of his face. He is sleeping it off right now. Kris said that he may never want to hunt any coon again if i keep spoiling him like this! LOL I said its just for tonight! He had to give me a hard time.

All of ours come in when they are sick. Boomer, who had never been inside a day in his life and is now 7 spent that week in here after his fall. Now when Ken loads them up in the truck, he opens the kennel doors inside the garage and they are all standing at that garage door waiting to run to the truck. Now Boomer and Thunder run to the back door of the house instead of the truck!!!! He has to hollar at them and pull them down the back steps!

Glad to hear that he is better. I know that when our Dan had a sedative, by the time I got him home, I had to carry him to the kennel... not an easy task! they are worth it when you have a good hound like that. WSe bring ours in depending on the illness or the situation.. like Lou when she had her pups and it wa frezzing outside. that won't be a problem anymore with the new kennels, though.
